Living Fossils

Red Knot and Horseshoe Crab

The Red Knot: a creature whose migration takes it from one end of the earth to the other. The Horseshoe Crab: a creature that has roamed the earth since the time of the dinosaurs, a “living fossil.” The fate of the Red Knot is intertwined with this ancient creature as it depends on its eggs for food during migration. As the population of Horseshoe Crabs declines, the Red Knot crashes with it, and the dauntless shorebird hurtles towards a destiny where it too becomes a doomed living fossil.
