I had wanted so badly to see a Golden Eagle. I scrutinized every dark shape that beat its wings against the sky, looking for some sign that it was different from the juvenile Bald Eagles that the silhouetted raptors always turned out to be. I finally found my Golden Eagle when I looked at a raptor that practically shimmered in the heavy midday sun. As it beat its wings I could see its golden feathers shining, and it seemed to fill the entire sky with its gleaming presence.
