I have never seen an Eskimo Curlew, and I never will. But after reading Fred Bodsworth’s “Last of the Curlews,” my heart ached for the decimated creature in a way that made me feel as though I had met this bird. Although the dauntless Eskimo Curlew soared across the pages of Bodsworth’s book alone, the last of its kind, I could not help but imagine it as part of a mighty flock of tireless shorebirds winging their way across hemispheres together.
