Nazca Booby, Sula granti, juvenile. The name ‘booby’ comes from the Spanish word bobo, meaning ‘fool’ or ‘dunce,’ referring to the clumsiness of boobies on land. Whether or not this also refers to their occasionally goofy appearance is open for deliberation.
