Little Mud Spot

from 2.00

The Buff-winged Starfrontlet, Coeligena lutetiae, is a tiny, determinedly territorial hummingbird of the montane forests in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. Their species name, lutetiae, comes from the latin “lutetia,” which they adopted from the gaulish word for “swamp” or “muddy,” perhaps named for the patch of ‘mud’ on their wings.
