The Snowcap, Microchera albocoronata, is a hummingbird of Central America, found in the canopy and edges of wet forest in Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and western Panama. Its species name, albocoronata, translates to “white crown”, but the english translation loses something in translation: in latin, adjectives have a feminine or masculine depiction. “Coronata” is the feminine version of “coronatus,” which means to crown or encircle, making the Snowcap the White-crowned Queen of the Central American rainforests.
