The wolves around Hoonah are biologically separate from the rest of the wolves of North America. Unlike inland wolves, this subspecies of wolf relies on both terrestrial and oceanic sources of food, and will eat otters, salmon, and clams. The Tlingit word for Wolf is “Gooch.”
